ancha Home Page
Project Intend
ancha is a backup and restore application storing backups
in directories of the (local) file system. These may include USB hard disks
and network shares. ancha is not intended to store backups on tapes or other
raw devices.
Project Name
The project is named after the star Ancha in the constellation
Aquarius.
Project Status
Project ancha is currently in the alpha phase.
Release are available from Sourceforge.
Available Features
The following new features are new in release 0.6.
- Sub entries can be specified on the command line
- Initial implementation of the list operation
- Meaningful return codes
- Comprehensive user documentation
- Process all entries in the archive or given directory, if no entries are specified on the command line
- Installation script
The following new features are new in release 0.5.
- Initial support for large files (>2GB). Large files ase stored in the archive undevided
- Support for character & block devices
- Non privileged users can restore GID's if they are member of the group
- As default the access time is ignored when deciding, if an entry has been modified since the last backup
- Improved test concept
The following new features are new in release 0.4.
- Improved error handling regarding corrupt index.xml files
- File names containing special characters (e.g. '<') are supported
- Support for fifos & sockets added
- Support for set-uid, set-gid and sticky flags added
- Access and modification time are handled with nanosecond resolution

- Improved command line interface
- Backup and restore for symbolic links
- New test tool dirlist supports the verification of backups
- Restore UID & GID (if restore is done by root)
- Readable time stamps in index.xml
